Mitsubishi has revealed further details of its upcoming Lancer X range, which is scheduled to go on sale early in 2008.

Described as a "revolution" for the marquee by the company, the new Lancer represented a departure from the previous nine generations of the vehicle.

"The new Lancer Evolution X takes a huge leap forward in overall capability with significant gains in handling, dynamics, comfort and technology," said Lance Bradley, Mitsubishi's sales and marketing director.

"At the same time, the driver still gets the kind of thrilling turbo engine performance that has made the model a legend around the world."

The vehicle is based on Mitsubishi's 'Project Global' platform, as is the new Lancer Evolution X and the New Outlander.

According to the manufacturer the car has been priced at the centre of the medium sized car segment, even though it is more equipped than its mainstream competitors.

The car produces 290bhp of power and 300 lb/ft of torque in the standard configuration, and features a six-speed twin clutch SST gearbox.

Prices start at £12,499 for the new model, with Mitsubishi explaining the vehicle includes sharper handling, better safety features, crisp styling and cutting-edge technology, all of which underline the car's sporting credentials.
