Top safety award for Nissan X-Trail

The Nissan X-Trail SUV has been award four stars, out of a maximum five, for both adult and child occupant safety after independent analysis.

The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) made the award after testing the vehicle at its state-of-the-art facilities recently.

For Nissan this represents more good news.

The Nissan Qashqai was recently awarded highest score for adult occupant protection ever by the independent crash test organisation.

However, the X-Trail scored especially well in the child occupant protection category, underlining its position as a top of the range family car.

As a result the X-Trail is now one of only two vehicles on record to score 43 points for child protection, the maximum yet achieved in Euro NCAP tests.

The vehicle also scored maximum points in side impact and pole crash tests for adult protection.

X-trail - which is manufactured by Nissan at its plant in Kyushu, Japan - has active and passive safety equipment including front, side and curtain airbags.

The second generation of the vehicle was introduced in Europe in June 2007, with the new model featuring more interior space than its predecessor and a wider choice of engine options.

It also features Nissan's latest electronically-controlled four-wheel drive system, making the X-trail capable of high octane adventures.
