Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro concept car to debut
The all-new Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro concept car will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show (November 16th-25th, 2007).
The vehicle features the world's cleanest diesel engine - which it is hoped, will assist Audi reach its commitment to reducing carbon emissions across its range by 20 per cent across its range by 2012 - and is a cross between a classic cabriolet and rugged capability of a Quattro-equipped off-road vehicle.
Currently a prototype design, the cabriolet could form the basis of an Audi SUV in the future.
Based on the essential designs for the A5 coupe and new A4 saloon, the new vehicle is 4.62 metres long and incorporates a new, leaner version of the 3.0-litre, 240PS V6 TDI engine.
Efficiency has been improved by Audi's new rail injection with a piezo crystal technology engine, exhaust gas recirculation and an exhaust after-treatment system. The employment of an AdBlue additive also cuts nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 per cent.
This, however, has not come at the expense of performance.
The car is capable of 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds and has a top speed of 149mph. Coupled to this it is also capable of 38.6mpg.
Google Earth also powers the Cross Cabriolet sat-nav system, allowing user to access photorealistic 3D maps and simply click on their destination in order to be instructed on how to get there.
