Nissan QASHQAI covers length of UK on one tank

A Nissan QASHQAI has made the journey from Land's End in the south-west of Cornwall to John O'Groats in northern Scotland on a single tank of petrol.

Driven by a team of seven test drivers from the Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) in Cranfield in Bedfordshire, started their journey at 6:00 on Tuesday September 25th and finished at 17:30 the next day.

The team averaged 67.35 mpg along the 867 mile (1,387 km) journey.

A further seven litres of fuel remained in the Nissan's petrol tank when the team arrived at John O'Groats - enough for the car to cover a further 110 miles (176 km).

A figure of 67.35 mpg is a 29 per cent improvement on the listed brochure fuel figure of 52.3 mpg.

If a customer travelled 10,000 miles a year in the vehicle, the savings in petrol recorded would equate to cash savings of £193 - based on current fuel prices.

The team modelled their trip on normal driving. Speed limits were adhered to on minor roads, cruising speeds of 60mph were employed on motorways and air conditioning, cruise control and headlights were used where necessary.

The vehicle was launched in early 2007 and had sold around 70,000 units worldwide.
