Jaguar launches new generation X-Type

The enduring Jaguar X-Type will get a fresh new look for 2008, with over 500 new components changed or added to the design.

Some of the key changes include a new automatic transmission and acclaimed 2.2 diesel engine.

It is hoped the vehicle will maintain the existing strengths of the brand, while creating new ones.

"The new X-Type stands for accessibility, versatility, luxury and choice within the Jaguar range," said CJ O'Donnell, global marketing director for Jaguar Cars.

"The package of revisions - particularly the automatic transmission in the 2.2 diesel - presents our established dealers and the key emerging markets with an excellent opportunity to reach new customers and retain existing owners."

On the exterior design changes reflect the modernisation of the Jaguar brand's saloon cars, while the interior has a greatly enhanced choice of design and equipment.

The 2008 model is the first car in the range to match diesel power to automatic transmission and the one-touch control of the Jaguar sequential shift.

The new engine is also more fuel efficient, and it is hoped the new model will appeal to a more family orientated market.

Prices start from £21,800 for the entry model with a launch expected in March 2008.
