1500bhp Nissan Patrol desert racer
Just in case that 3000bhp beastie was a bit too much for you, here's a quick look at another Dubai desert racer, but from the competition class directly below the top-dog 3000bhp V8s in the performance pecking order.
This devilish dune-basher produces a mere 1500bhp from its straight-6, twin turbo engine - but that's still twice as much power as a Formula One car.
If you look really carefully you should be able spot the double helping of power-boosting turbochargers. Yes, those things that look like giant weapons from another world!
They may run in the class below the mighty V8s, but don't for a second think that there's anything substandard or puny about these turbo trucks. The basic idea is to use the turbos to force-feed the engine with high-pressure air in which to burn lots and lots of high-octane racing fuel, resulting in those incredible power figures.
Then you sit the thing at the bottom of that mountainous sand dune and fire it to the top as quickly as possible from a standing start. Not as easy as it sounds. Deep sand is treacherous to drive on, especially at these high speed, and a lot of the time that huge boost pressure from the turbos will grenade the tortured engine long before the top, making for some wild, high-pressure explosions. All will become clear when I get that video up for you...
