Motorcycle riders know just how important it is to protect themselves while on the road - and there are few better choices when it comes to this than Dainese leathers.

Founded in Italy in 1972 by Lino Dainese, the company specialises in innovative clothing for motorcyclists, mountain bike riders and downhill skiers.

With several decades in the industry, the firm is constantly on the lookout for new ways to make its leathers even safer and because of its years of experience it has a firm understanding of what customers are looking for when they shop for clothing in terms of comfort and style.

Indeed, it has worked with some of the world's best riders, including world champion Giacomo Agostini - known as Ago - who has more than 100 Grand Prix wins to his name.

According to Dainese, the racer was one of the first professionals to fully understand that motorcycle clothing is more than just a suit, but that it needs to be highly wearable, safe and allow for the easy movement of the person in it as well.

Along with Ago, other top racers the firm has worked with include Barry Sheene, Kenny Roberts, Eddie Lawson, Carl Fogarty and Valentino Rossi.

Frequently, the suits are made from high-quality leather that has been handmade and some of the clothing is even known to contain elements such as titanium or carbon fibre to provide additional protection.

Perhaps the thing the brand is best known for is its passion for developing its Dainese body armour.

One of its inventions - D-air - is a suit that is designed to provide added defence against injury to the parts of the body that most require it.

It helps prevent the collarbone and shoulders from being damaged, while also stopping either the hyperextension or hyperflexion of the neck, along with excessive movement of the shoulder blades.

The suit even includes an airbag that helps to hold all of the protective panels in place to ensure they can work in the way that was intended.

But even if you have no plans to ever hit a race track, you will still find Dainese clothing that suits you.

One-piece suits for men and women are available in a selection of colours and designs. These are a great option in terms of comfort as they fit snugly to your body, although there are also two-piece separates available.

Most of the suits come with armour for the elbows, knees, shoulders and shins, which are the parts of your body most likely to make initial contact with the ground should you come off your bike.

However, there are options with additional protection, which could help to give you peace of mind as you enjoy your ride.

You can pick up boots and gloves from the range and the same amount of precision has gone into creating these as the company knows they form an integral part of any biker's wardrobe.

Dainese also makes thermal items that can be worn under a main leather suit to help regulate a rider's temperature. It may not seem like it but this is a safety issue, because if you feel too cold or hot your attention may be distracted from the road.

If you need a little assistance in selecting the suit that best meets your requirements, you can speak with motorcycle sales representatives at your local trader.

Follow the lead of your favourite professional racer and make sure that when you hit the road, you are as protected as possible.
